Cabbie loses licence for a year
Almost 50 motorists took advantage of the second sitting of the night court at the Corporate Area Traffic Court on Tuesday.
Most of the offenders paid fines for disobeying traffic lights, exceeding the speed limit, not wearing a seatbelt and not wearing protective headgear. The offences were reportedly committed during 2017 and 2022.
At least three motorists, one of whom is a taxi driver, had his licence suspended for a year after accumulating 16 demerit points for traffic infractions.
The defendant, Roderick Smith pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to wear a seatbelt, two counts of exceeding the speed limit and disobeying a stop sign before parish judge Venise Blackstock-Murray.
Following his admission of guilt, prosecutors asked that Smith hand over his driver's licence and make a verbal application before the jurist that his licence be suspended for a year.
Judge Blackstock-Murray granted the request, however, Smith was not pleased as his facial expression spewed anger. He also hissed his teeth loudly during the court proceedings.
