Man to pay ex $200,000 after restaurant assault
A brawl that allegedly happened over dinner at a Corporate Area restaurant has left a woman nursing injuries and her now ex-boyfriend being the subject of criminal proceedings at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.
Demar Deer is to make compensation in the sum of $200,000 for assaulting his ex-girlfriend while they were on a romantic dinner on July 6. It is alleged that Deer invited the complainant to dinner and while at the restaurant, an argument developed between the couple. Allegations state that the complainant told Deer that she no longer wanted him to accompany her on a trip, which resulted in Deer hitting her all over her body, including her face, ears and hands.
It is further alleged that Deer, while throwing punches, threatened the complainant saying, "Me affi kill yuh. Me affi kill yuh."
The matter, which was heard before Senior Parish Judge Paula Blake-Powell, was court mediated and Deer agreed to compensate the complainant. An initial payment was made by way of bank transfer, however, the sums were not shared in court.
Deer is to return to court on October 17 to complete restitution.
