JPL: Veteran Reid at the double for Arnett
Arnett Gardens picked up their second win in a row in the Wray and Nephew-sponsored Jamaica Premier League (JPL) yesterday as they turned back Harbour View 2-0 at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Veteran striker Fabian Reid scored both goals for the Junglists as he struck in the 14th and 37th minutes of play.
It was the second win in five games for Arnett who have turned their inconsistent form around, while Harbour View have extended their winless run to six games.
Trayvon Reid had one of the first real opportunities of the contest as his free kick effort from range had the goalkeeper beaten for pace before it crashed off the crossbar.
The home team took the lead just a minute later when Jaheim Thomas' initial shot first parried into the path of Fabian Reid, who could not miss as he had an empty net at his mercy from within the six-yard box.
Fabian Reid completed his double with a striker's finish as he capitalised on a loose ball in the Harbour View penalty box and let loose a half-volley that whistled past the goalkeeper.
Trayvon Reid continued to be a menace for the Stars of the East and tested the goalkeeper's reflexes when he struck a first-time curling effort from just outside the box in the second half.
Luca Kung came close to pulling one back for Harbour View in the 53rd minute but his header from a corner delivery was too tame to beat the Arnett goalkeeper.
Arnett did not rest on their laurels in the second half and roared back into the contest as Marlon Martin nearly added the night's third but his chipped effort was just inches high of the target.
With the win, Arnett moved to the seventh in the league with 19 points, and are just outside the top six spots, trailing sixth-place Tivoli Gardens with 22.
Harbour View, on the other hand, sit just inside the relegation zone in 13th with 14 points.
In another match played yesterday hosts Tivoli Gardens clipped Spanish Town Police FC 1-0 to move into sixth with 22 points.
