Birthday boy Asafa donates homes to families in Westmoreland

DARLISTON, Westmoreland:

Olympian and Jamaican sprint legend Asafa Powell marked his birthday in the most meaningful way this year, donating two new homes to families in Darliston, Westmoreland, one of the communities hardest hit by the recent Hurricane Melissa.

The initiative was funded through generous contributions to Powell's GoFundMe campaign, created to support rebuilding efforts across affected parishes.

Thanks to the outpouring of support from Jamaicans at home and abroad, Powell and his team were able to deliver safe and stable housing solutions to families who had lost everything.

Just a few weeks ago, Powell visited Georges Valley and Brighton in St Elizabeth, through partnership with the Noah Lyles Foundation, where he and his team provided emergency supplies and support to residents in those devastated communities. The donation of two container homes in Westmoreland marks the continuation of that mission, helping families rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

"Delivering homes to families affected by the hurricane, especially those who might not be able to celebrate the holidays this year, is truly special," said Powell.

"Seeing their smiles and tears of joy reminded me why giving back is so important," he pointed out. "I'm grateful to everyone who donated. None of this would be possible without you."

Both families in Darliston expressed heartfelt gratitude as Asafa and his wife, Alyshia, handed over keys to their new homes, bringing relief and stability after weeks of uncertainty.

Asafa and Alyshia will continue recovery efforts as funds allow.
