Spanish Town Police FC slipped to their third consecutive defeat - while conceding 18 goals - following a 3-0 loss to Cavalier in the lone Jamaica Premier League (JPL) football game on Monday, at Stadium East.

Cavalier, the defending champions, got goals from Chad James (26th), Kimarley Scott (63rd) and Damarley Williams (70th) to stay sixth in the table, while moving six points clear of seventh-place Arnett and eighth-place Chapelton in the fight for a playoff spot. The top six teams will make the title-contending playoffs..

Spanish Town Police's head coach Wolry Wolfe said internal issues have contributed much to their recent bad run of results, and that it was hard lifting morale after back-to-back heavy defeats.

HAVING ISSUES

"We are having issues in the club, to be honest. Don't want to find excuses, but we really have internal issues. We are trying to work on them. Our starting 'keeper' (Trinidadian Glenroy Samuels) isn't even here anymore," Wolfe stated.

"So stuff's going on. Frustration, different personalities and all sort of things. Hopefully, we can fix things and see how it goes," he commented.

Wolfe said morale is very low and that it was difficult motivating players after respective 6-0 and 9-0 defeats recently.

"It's always disappointing to lose. We had a great first half. Second half we just lost it, we just didn't come out for the second half," he said of yesterday's match when they trailed 1-0 at the interval.

"The belief is always to stay up," he noted of their relegation fight. "The players know what's at hand, and to stay up we have to go and fight. It doesn't matter the past scorelines, we have been doing bad from Montego Bay (FC) to be exact, 6-0 and after that 9-0. We knew what we had to so today (Monday) and we fell short again."

FOOT OF THE TABLE

Spanish Town Police sit at the foot of the table on 26 points, five adrift of Treasure Beach and seven behind Harbour View and Molynes United.

Cavalier controlled the game and broke the deadlock when James scored the opening goal midway the first half.

The homesters scored their second when Scott latched onto a delightful through ball from Williams and lifted over the advancing Javaughn Darby.

A few minutes later, Williams found room inside the box to curl a shot around Darby to make it 3-0.

David Laylor, Cavalier's assistant coach, said the three points helped solidify their claim for a top-six spot.

"This three points helped to cement us more in the sixth position and we can get better. What was more pleasing was how the youngsters played. We introduced them in the game and it really looked well," he said.
