Kingsmen’s misery deepens......Warriors condemn Jamaica franchise to third consecutive loss in CPL

The Jamaica Kingsmen’s nightmare start to the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) tournament continued on Thursday night, as they suffered their third consecutive defeat, falling to the Guyana Amazon Warriors by six wickets with a staggering 35 balls to spare at Sabina Park.

After winning the toss and electing to field, the Warriors produced a clinical bowling display to dismiss the Kingsmen for a paltry 117 in just 19.4 overs, before chasing down the target with ease, reaching 118 for four in only 14.1 overs.

GRIM

The Kingsmen’s batting card made for grim reading once again, with only opener Reeza Hendricks getting 40 and captain Rovman Powell chipping in with 24, offering any significant resistance against a relentless Warriors attack.

The spin duo of Imran Tahir and Mohammad Nabi proved absolutely devastating through the middle overs, claiming four wickets between them while maintaining suffocating control over the run rate.

CARNAGE

The carnage began early when Shayan Jahangir fell for just one run in the second over, caught behind off Khary Pierre.

Keacy Carty followed soon after for five, trapped leg-before by Shemar Joseph as the Kingsmen stumbled to 26 for two.

Hendricks and Powell briefly steadied the ship with a 35-run partnership, but once the former was caught and bowled by the evergreen Tahir for 40, the innings descended into chaos.

Nabi then produced a masterclass in off-spin, finishing with extraordinary figures of four for 22 from his four overs, accounting for Hassan Khan, Andre Russell, Keemo Paul, and Hunain Shah.

CONSOLATION

Vitel Lawes provided some late fireworks with 14 runs, but it was merely a consolation as the Warriors wrapped up the innings with two balls to spare.

The Warriors’ reply was a study in controlled aggression, with Shai Hope anchoring the innings with a composed, unbeaten 56 off 41 balls, decorated with two fours and four sixes.

Glenn Phillips had set the early tone with 28, including three boundaries, before being caught brilliantly by Hassan Khan off Andre Russell’s bowling.

The early loss of Mavendra Dindyal for a duck was quickly forgotten as Hope and Nabi added 50 runs for the fourth wicket in just 33 balls.

Despite losing Nabi for 19, and Shimron Hetmyer for just one, the Warriors never looked troubled.

FINISHING TOUCHES

Quentin Sampson provided the finishing touches with an unbeaten 13 as the visitors completed the chase with more than five overs remaining.

The Kingsmen now find themselves rooted to the bottom of the table without a point after three losses from as many matches, with their playoff hopes already hanging by a thread.

With momentum firmly against them, they face an uphill battle to resurrect their campaign, especially with the marauding Trinbago Knight Riders up next on Saturday, also at Sabina Park.
