Suspect facing more charges after escaping custody

November 21, 2025

A Kingston man who escaped custody while being processed following his arrest nearly three years ago, was captured by lawmen earlier this month.

Twenty-seven-year-old Karim Brown, otherwise called 'Dolla Coin,' of Highholborn Street, has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, simple larceny, and escaping custody following an incident at his home on December 22, 2022. Reports indicate that at 5:30 a.m., a team of officers assigned to the Kingston Central Police Division carried out a search at Brown's premises. During the search, a Glock 19 pistol with an affixed magazine containing 17 9mm rounds was found in a green suitcase inside a room occupied by Brown.

Following the discovery, Brown was taken into custody, and while being processed, he managed to escape through a defective window in the office. He was apprehended by lawmen along Lissant Road in Kingston on November 9. He was subsequently charged after a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney. His court date is being finalised.
